Rated 1 out of 5�by Smoke70 Nasty cake. This cake was so disgusting I would like to get a refund. Maybe I will call and do that but I don't want to go to the trouble of returning it.. Worst cake I have ever had. Every bite had shells in it. The taste was not good but the worst part was the shells. It is still in the fridge after trying to eat one small slice. I am going to throw it out. Not edible. March 24, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5�by NEOwoman Moist, rich, dense cake--a tasty treat. This Trappist Abbey date nut cake was delicious. I had not purchased it before. I wanted something special to take to a holiday potluck dinner, and the description sounded like this cake would fit the bill. It is a small cake. However, I cut each slice in half because it was so rich. (Think "fudge" which is usually eaten in small bites, not the whole slab at once!) The nuts were fresh, and the dates made the cake very moist. I was pleased with the purchase, and the other people at the dinner enjoyed it, too. December 20, 2015

As I recall from my Xmas order, both the Trappist Abbey fruitcake and the Trappist Abbey date nut cake were just one pound each. They were very dense and, therefore, small in dimension---about the size of a large paper note cube. Still, my husband and I found that a very thin slice made a satisfying serving, so that we were easily able to get eight servings out of one cake. Unlike other reviewers, we were pleased with the cakes, which were loaded with top-quality and abundant fruits and nuts.

It is very small and not as good as I thought it would be. Nobody cut a slice for themselves at our Christmas gathering. I tasted it and its rather sweet. All in all, i dont feel its worth the money you spend for it. I.T.

It is small but ample to feed an intimate gathering. It is very rich. I felt it was delicious. It is filled with dates and nuts so there is a heaviness to it and one would not require a large slice.

Very small,16 oz. You can hold the entire box in one hand, but worth the price. Among the best fruitcakes I've ever tasted. I wasn't quite as impressed with the date nut cake, I'd give it an ok.

It is quite small, maybe 3 or 4 inches in its longest dimension, but it is also very filling, so the small box lasted two of us for about a week (eating a little most days)

About the size of a deck of cards but thicker. It is VERY rich, so it is small but a little goes a long way.

does this have added sugar or is it just fruit sugars?

BEST ANSWER: It is overly sweet and I was disappointed in the taste and consistency of the cake. Because of the sweetness, I would believe that there is some sort of sweetener added, besides the dates and glaced fruits.
I would definitely not order it again.

It has some honey and the ginger has been candied but all the rest is fruit sugars -- very good!
