Rated 5 out of 5�by CaptainKirk An old friend returns I purchased an identical sports coat from Norm Thompson long ago (perhaps 20 years). Though I have a closet full of good clothes from top clothiers, the Norm Thompson Matka Silk Sportcoat was my favorite. I especially like to travel in it. It is lightweight and keeps its shape well. The size (44L) is true. I often wear the jacket with a tie on flights and I would bet that I've got a dozen upgrades as a result. After a long flight, I'll hang it in the hotel closet and the next morning it is wrinkle free. Finally, it gave out and I had to get rid of it (only after being told that repairs would be over $150 and it still would be worn in places). I'm tempted to get a backup, but my new one will probably outlast me. Thanks for making a great product and keeping it available. July 10, 2015

The photo looked basically shades of brown, but the actual coat has a lot of blues that were jarring to my eyes. Some people might like these bold colors but I didn't care for it. I wanted something like the photo. The fit (38S) and quality were fine. It was the color I wasn't expecting. May 30, 2014

Under options, What does the R stand for?

BEST ANSWER: The R standards for Regular in a men's suit coat. The alternative is Short (S) and, I think, Long (L). So, if the size is a 38, it would be a 38R or a 38S. (Not sure about Long here). It determines how long the coat tail falls. How to choose between R and S? The height is a good clue. If the man is under 5 ft 7 in., choose 38S. If the man is over 5 ft 7 in., choose 38R, or whatever the size is, like 40R. If the man is like me at 5 ft 7 in., it's hard to know what's best. I suppose 38R is safer then, because the coat could be shortened.

r=regular
you have three options in men's jackets; short, regular and long.
I suggest to go to your Husband's closet and check [mostly found]
the left inside panel. that will give you a hint as to what size to order.

As it happened, we received a message back saying the jacket was unavailable, so never found received this jacket .... but I think the S, L, and R may mean "short, long, and regular" ... maybe ...

Usually R stands for regular length. My husband gets and L or long length.
